This one is from a crime scene of one of the victims of Richard Ramirez, she was found gagged, on the kitchen floor. Groceries were also on the floor with her, leading some to speculate that she had been fixing a midnight snack when Ramirez surprised her.
Prints will NOT be available of these; they will be included in the book, and later the originals may be for sale.

Marth Wise loved funerals. The pomp and glory appealed to her, and since she lived in difficult circumstances, in a life of constant heavy labor, the reprieve from a day of work was most welcome. Married at a very young age to a much older man, Wise was accustomed to unending farm work, heavy work. She had four children that survived- and several that died.
Her first husband died in strange circumstances, and the family members who opposed her marriage to a younger man soon died, of digestive illnesses, later found to have arsenic in their guts. She was discovered to have ordered a large amount of arsenic earlier from a pharmacist.
She confessed to several of the killings, and to enjoying tending to the victims as they died.
“I liked their funerals. I could get dressed up and see folks and talk to them. The only fun I ever had was after I kilt people.”
She also claimed to have burned the church in town, because the minister would not perform her new marriage.
In the 60’s, Wise was paroled. She was ancient and weak- and her remaining (not-poisoned) family refused to help her in any way. Several nursing homes turned her down as well; she returned to prison, where they revoked her parole. She died there, in 1971.
I feel strange about her story. I almost feel- sympathy for her.
How can I say what I would have done? I mean, I probably wouldn’t have poisoned everyone in town and burned the church, but the temptation to run away, escape, or find some way out of that kind of life would have been intense.
I think perhaps she was before her time, and that a lot of the “Black Widow” killers from that era would not even exist (well, don’t really exist) today- the same way babykillers who ran “adoption agencies” for illegitimate kids don’t exist anymore- the times have changed, and being married with such age disparity, against your will, then used as a mule rarely happens in the US these days. As well as being illegitimately pregnant no longer completely destroying the mother’s life (thanks feminism!) due to more acceptance, and more-available birth control, as well as legal abortion.
At any rate, her story intrigued me.
