Little bit of holiday paint
- In you,
The tattoo we do for you is just a tattoo. For me, it’s a way to make something awesome that someone gets to keep forever no matter what. It’s not ‘therapy’, ‘psychology’, or some kind of healing…for you it may serve some of those purposes but that does NOT HAVE TO INVOLVE ME. It’s not my place to heal you, listen to your life story, or pick up your emotional weight for you.
If you use your tattoo for healing that is great. Tattoos can do that. But be careful of anyone who claims THEY can heal you, that they are the one doing it. They’re not. It’s YOU doing it.
If they say they can heal you? They’re just as sheisty as any snake-oil peddler.
I don’t need to know why you are getting a tattoo. In fact I usually would rather NOT hear the long tale of woe or history behind your decisions. I can’t see your tattoo from my house, I can’t fix you, my knowledge of your reasons isn’t going to make the tattoo better at all. It might in fact distract me from my actual job; making something beautiful that you will want to look at until you’re ancient.
I have been ill, so I haven’t been the usual powerhouse of prolificity (is that a word?). Instead, I have been nursing my belly, and resting. I had a good solstice and as I write this, tomorrow is xmas eve.
The days before solstice I finished up a commission (which I’ll be posting soon) of a magpie with some roses, which was incredibly fun. I did it for a friend of mine, a supporter. She’s rad. I also did some sketches of seasonal hare paintings, which will be my main project in early January. And the rest of the time? When I felt well enough, I got caught up with making shirt designs.
A few people have asked me, so I thought I’d make sure you knew, you can order these in any size, any color- a few are even in kid’s sizes too. Just look to the right on the listing page, and use the little chart and dropdown to choose. Under each image there, you can see options like kid’s sizes, hoodies, or shirt style as well.
Here are the shirts I’ve been working on from my own art…
14×20″ watercolor teapot. Sketched, then masked, then washed in, then starting an underpainting. I got an easel and pochade for solstice, and a brush and paper block for xmas!
I’ll be away for a few days, solstice was lovely and i hope your holidays are too.
I LOVE gonelawn. I read the site every new issue that comes out, and recently I realized I could actually submit work to them! They’ve published a previously-unseen shot of the spider monkey skeleton as their cover image. It’s the upcoming issue, #13.
Here are a few of my favorite pieces from the journal.
BEST. COMIC. EVER, just did a comic about me being brutal!!!
It’s great! If you browse through the comic’s archives, you’ll see why I love blogjam so much. Also, he made me look very…dapper, in the comic, which I think is hilarious.
Awesome!
(*I’m also really stoked because I am right after JOHN WATERS in the comics…oh my gawd I love him so much.)
