crime scene series.

Posted by resonanteye on 06/25/2012

These go along with the serial killer portraits. I’ll post this first, less-disturbing one for now, and then later as they get done being scanned I’ll post the rest below the jump.

This one is from a crime scene of one of the victims of Richard Ramirez, she was found gagged, on the kitchen floor. Groceries were also on the floor with her, leading some to speculate that she had been fixing a midnight snack when Ramirez surprised her.

Prints will NOT be available of these; they will be included in the book, and later the originals may be for sale.

Female serial killer, Martha Wise.

Posted by resonanteye on 06/22/2012

Marth Wise  loved funerals. The pomp and glory appealed to her, and since she lived in difficult circumstances, in a life of constant heavy labor, the reprieve from a day of work was most welcome. Married at a very young age to a much older man, Wise was accustomed to unending  farm work, heavy work. She had four children that survived- and several that died.

Her first husband died in strange circumstances, and the family members who opposed her marriage to a younger man soon died, of digestive illnesses, later found to have arsenic in their guts. She was discovered to have ordered a large amount of arsenic earlier from a pharmacist.

She confessed to several of the killings, and to enjoying tending to the victims as they died.

“I liked their funerals. I could get dressed up and see folks and talk to them. The only fun I ever had was after I kilt people.”

She also claimed to have burned the church in town, because the minister would not perform her new marriage.

In the 60’s, Wise was paroled. She was ancient and weak- and her remaining (not-poisoned) family refused to help her in any way. Several nursing homes turned her down as well; she returned to prison, where they revoked her parole. She died there, in 1971.

I feel strange about her story. I almost feel- sympathy for her.

How can I say what I would have done? I mean, I probably wouldn’t have poisoned everyone in town and burned the church, but the temptation to run away, escape, or find some way out of that kind of life would have been intense.

I think perhaps she was before her time, and that a lot of the “Black Widow” killers from that era would not even exist (well, don’t really exist) today- the same way babykillers who ran “adoption agencies” for illegitimate kids don’t exist anymore- the times have changed, and being married with such age disparity, against your will, then used as a mule rarely happens in the US these days. As well as being illegitimately pregnant no longer completely destroying the mother’s life (thanks feminism!) due to more acceptance, and more-available birth control, as well as legal abortion.

At any rate, her story intrigued me.

two versions of ramirez, and a book?

Posted by resonanteye on 06/14/2012

I may or may not be working on a hand-bound book of prints and stories about these killers, including crime scene paintings I’ve been doing for each one.

If I do this, the blue ramirez is meant as the cover of the book.

I have no title yet, and only a few stories written up beyond the ones already posted here at the site.

This is a big project and I don’t know how long it will take. I’m still, on the side, working with a tarot set; so it will depend on how much time I have for progress after working on that and my commissions/tattoo work (rent! paying rent)

ah, it’s always the starving artist thing.

night stalker portraitIf I manage to do fairly well the next month or two I’ll have more time to devote to this. I really would love to get it together soonish.

It’s always having to work to pay the rent that gets in the way of future projects.

I wish people would buy what I’ve already made and framed, sometimes, rather than asking for commissioned work. But then again, a lot of hilarious or enjoyable imagery comes from commissions, so it’s not a bad thing…

I’ll update here with paypal buttons as soon as I’ve scanned and printed this one for sale.

He’ll be in the portrait section as well.

OH YEAH, as well as finishing these two drawings today, I also finished a portrait of another of my favorite movie sociopaths, fictional psychopaths-

mcmurphy.

I’ll have prints of this one up soon as well.

jack nicholsonI’m considering adding Nurse Ratchet too, but I think I have to re-read the book first, as her motivations are not as clear as his.

Title suggestions, book length and size ideas, and thoughts on price and such are all welcome- leave me a comment with your opinions!

serial killer portraits, originals.

Posted by resonanteye on 05/16/2012

Here we go, the full list (so far) of originals and prints for all my serial killer portraits. Click the image to see it bigger- and here’s  a link to prints of these!

I started working on these because I have an inordinate fondness for true crime books, movies. Because I love gory things, horrorful stuff, and always find it fascinating that some people behave this way.

I also remember what Richard Chase said- that he didn’t choose his victims, he just tried doors until he found one open- because if it was locked he wasn’t welcome there.

I think that sums up a lot of the phenomenon. Serial killers, sociopaths, they exploit our human weaknesses, and yet they don’t see others as human. It’s very interesting to me, the way watching predators on nature shows is interesting to me.

The first set of these I did are cannibal killers- the second set, which I am still working on (and which starts with Gacy) are parental figures who were also serial killers. That set will be pretty big, as a lot of serial killers were considered good parents, and upstanding citizens by their neighbors and friends.

I plan to work with images of necrophiles after that, such as Gein, Bundy. That set should actually include Kemper, but I liked his story so much I worked on him already.

Click through to see the rest of the collection so far!

ok, ok. The story of Carl Panzram.

Posted by resonanteye on 11/15/2011

”I was so full of hate that there was no room in me for such feelings as love, pity, kindness or honor or decency.”

Carl Panzram was born at an odd time in American history. In 1891, in rural Minnesota, he was born into a poor farming family. His father left the family when he was 7. Brought up in an atmosphere of swift and merciless punishment, and unending toil for little or no reward, Panzram learned early that the world most likely hated him, or at best was indifferent.

Unlike most in this situation, he decided to return hate with hate, and indifference to suffering with callous disregard.

“The older I got the meaner I got.”

The nation, in Panzram’s youth, was suddenly much easier to traverse. He was one of the first traveling killers. Canneries, industry, and labor disputes were common during his lifetime- the fact that child labor was being seriously defended by those in authority at that time did much to warp his perspective. He began his violence very young, and at the age of  eight, fighting and attacking other children. He was sent to a reform school at eleven. Reform schools and prisons at that time were not dedicated to rehabilitation- punishment was the purpose, and Panzram experienced several years of sodomy, beatings, forced labor, and starvation.

When he was released, he was primed and ready to take revenge on the world.

”I first began to think that I was being unjustly imposed upon. Then I began to hate those who abused me. Then I began to think that I would have my revenge just as soon and as often as I could injure someone else. Anyone at all would do.”

In 1906, after another failed attempt at reform school, Panzram hopped a train out into the world.

“I fully decided when I left there just how I would live my life. I made up my mind that I would rob, burn, destroy and kill everywhere I went and everybody I could as long as I lived.”

He was almost immediately arrested for burglary and imprisoned again. At the age of 14, he was fully grown, man-size. He was able to escape, and began burning churches as a hobby along his travels. His fierce hatred for religion had been beaten into him during his time at the christian reform schools. He had begun to rape anyone and everyone he came across that was vulnerable; his anger was not limited by gender or age.

Panzram changed his name during this time, and wandered west again. He eventually enlisted in the military; he was court-martialed and sentenced again, almost immediately, for burglary. He was sent to the federeal penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth- an old, brutally-managed prison.  He was treated as an adult, since it was not known that he was only 16 at the time. A code of silence was strictly enforced there, solitary confinement and whipping were the chosen punishments.  He was there for four years- breaking rocks for ten hours a day, every day. when he left he was stronger and angrier than before.

I’ve found that I simply can’t do Panzram justice. His ability to express himself, and the sheer amount of information in existence chronicling his life, are overwhelming to me. He is a nihilist inspiration; he was the epitome of misanthropic, all-encompassing-hateful badassery, and his story is told very well and with thorough attention to detail here. You can also, like I did, buy his autobiography, which he wrote while in prison.

I hate to be a quitter but I honestly feel that my writing ability has broken under the weight of detail available about his life.

Perhaps I will come back to this post later, and take another run at him.
