some things I’ve been making
to keep all the damn plugs and weights in. or little ones for gift boxes…they’ve got felt lining too.
I’ve got a handful for sale at the shop.

During this tattoo session I treated my client to a reading of a terrible saccharine poem about a fairy flower baby.
I think the tattoo came out well, all things considered.
he makes amazing art.
srsly/ I love his stuff. I keep grabbing copies of his posters whenever I can. Most of the stuff he makes is for bands I really like, too, which makes his stuff all that more appealing…
he has some process stuff posted too, step by steps. really interesting to see other people’s way of working…go check him out.
Had a great time at the Unfine Art’s 8th anniversary.
I had a piece hanging in the show—
I enjoyed Honey Vizer’s reading of the manifesto to Shawn’s awesome sax madness—
The Ninkasi and some of the food was delicious—
And I even had an attractive date to bring with me, who was willing to help re-build a bucky ball, and discuss the PNW-china connection with some strangers.
All in all a successful evening.
I made this for my friend Jared a while back, and just came across this picture of it.
I used some quotations, things crazy horse actually said (while he was in custody) as backdrop.
I have no idea about the authenticity or whatever of the headdress. I just made what I thought looked cool.
I’d like to draw more like this- portraits of dead heros, I guess. Skully type portraits.
Spent a few hours working on this. Yes, I had a migraine afterwards. Yes there were moments when I felt green and had to look away. Most of those moments came along during the last hour, when the majority of the piece had been finished, and I could begin to see a bit of movement even when I was up close on it. I took some excedrin and had a few drinks after work, that helped bring me back to normal. My eyes were skewy for a few hours after I was done working.
It was a challenge and I am so stoked that I got to do this! I love anomalous motion illusions. I really wanted to do at least one of them, try to make it work on skin. This was a good start. I’ve got a few more of these on the way.
What an awesome day!
Why these work: Your brain sees the shadow of the shapes, or areas that converge, as possible movement. Since there’s a lag between your eye seeing it and your brain understanding it, images like this appear to move. Your peripheral vision and your direct focus have a time lag as well.
Your brain interprets the image as conatining motion. In this one people may see radiating spikes of shadow that move around, or motion into or out of the center, or vibration.
Anomalous motion is your mind playing tricks on you, basically.
I’ve got a painting by my friend Nora, a photograph my friend Rachel took, and two big collage mounts by louter . I bought one from her after seeing it in person then commissioned her to make a matching one for me. They’re gorgeous.
Her stuff is mde of nature mostly, bits and pieces. But she also paints, adds texture and color in ways that are sometimes surprising and always good for the eyes.Lots of leaves, twigs, tendrils. And then on top of all this nature and decay, electric blue, gold, searing violets or yellow. Amazing stuff. We had a show together at a local place here, it was really nice to see her work alongside mine. I love her art and just can’t see enough of it.
Go check her out, it’s awesome work (and not all that expensive, all things considered)
