cack.

fighting cock tattooI worked on a good friend today. I like spontaneous tattoos a lot.

There’s something to be said for the energy that builds up when you talk over an idea, do the art together, find reference, and then tattoo- all in one day. It’s my favorite way to work, really- with the client right there, hanging out the whole time.

This is Chicken’s cack.

Chicken is an old friend. He’s covered in no-nos, tattoos that are funny or offensive. He came in to get tattooed with no idea what we ought to work on (he is, like me, running out of space!) so we sat down and started throwing ideas around. He doesn’t have a cock tattoo, so noticing that the front of his leg below the knee was empty it was the first thing that popped into my mind – both as something that’d suit him, and something I’d really enjoy drawing. He asked me to make sure it was damn serious and kinda pissed, so I did.

We looked up a ton of photographs of the actual animal, so that I could get a good feel for the body structure and feather patterns on these guys. Our piercer, Tigger, showed me some photos of Aurmarca(spelling?) roosters, too- very simple and direct colors on these guys. Red, brownish-yellow, and a greeny-black iridescence.

All in all, a fun start for a big giddy tattoo.

I’ll be at the shop tomorrow too- it’s the tail end of the slow season here. Next month I will likely be busy tattooing, but for right now I have the time to work on some close friends and colleagues, which is a nice segue back to regular working hours from camping season!

(note, this cack is about halfway done. we still have to do the tail, wing, and background.)

Tattoo flash department!

snake oil tattoo flash painting

click here to buy 11×14″ framed original, $130 including shipping
or click HERE to buy an 8×11″ print for $25, including shipping.

Some tattoo art and prints, (all originals are framed!) I’m currently using paypal if you buy direct here, it will take you to a cart/checkout at paypal from any of the “add to cart buttons”… if you prefer wepay or google checkout, email me at resonanteye at gmail dot com for an invoice!

I have some other, older pieces that are tattoo-related listed here, if you want to check out more of this stuff.

The originals of some of these I painted as part of a flash set, (10 sheets) that I did a few years ago- others are more recent. I am halfway through another set of flash, when it’s finished I’ll post the originals here as well.

There’s something soothing about finishing a piece like this- I use a round nib pen, and FW inks for the outlines; the color is all watercolor paint. The process itself, working with pen and ink- it’s a kind of meditative state. Some of the sheets are aged paper, burnt and stained to look old.

And some are crisp and perfect. I personally like the look of the aged paper best. Plus it’s a fun process (see this post for a how-to)

click through to see the rest of the tattoo paintings!

click to buy an 11×14″ archival print (epson archival pigment on bristol acid-free 100lb paper) for $40, including shipping.

ACEO and mini paintings.

Posted by resonanteye on 04/16/2012

I’m still not quite sure how I feel about working so small. I do like the idea of people without a lot of spare cash being able to own my art, though. So with a little nudge from some friends, I decided to paint a few.

I had done a few mini deer paintings before, but these are the first tiny tattoo art paintings I’ve done.

Do you paint mini-size, or ACEOs? What’s been your experience with them? I find it really hard, because for things like this I usually use a round nib on an ink-dip pen, and had to use such a tiny nib- also I am accustomed to doing BIG soft washes, so switching down to tiny-brush-size felt a bit odd too.

I suppose I will wait and see how much people want them too, before I make up my mind!

more father’s day things- and being a bit shangry!

Posted by resonanteye on 04/07/2012

fathers day artfathers day lawnmowerSomehow paypal decided I still lived at an address I haven’t used in two years, and sent a few things there. Normally this wouldn’t be any problem, as people usually just write “not at this address” on stuff and put it back into a mailbox.

Strangely enough, these people have decided to keep my things. Which means I have to fill out a ton of forms to send the angry USPS workers after them- and possibly the police. I hate that! Why would people not be…normal?

I mean, what they stole was my goatse gnome! Of all things.

I can only imagine what they were thinking when they greedily opened someone else’s package…

gramps's wrench fathers day artAnyway, here are a few more father’s day paintings. I’m sort of on a kick with these, as you can tell. They’re up for sale at my painting shop, if you like them, or just want a link to them to share around (hint, hint)

Wish me luck repossessing my gnome!
