art opening

Posted by resonanteye on 02/02/2010

Had a great time at the Unfine Art’s 8th anniversary.

I had a piece hanging in the show—

I enjoyed Honey Vizer’s reading of the manifesto to Shawn’s awesome sax madness—

The Ninkasi and some of the food was delicious—

And I even had an attractive date to bring with me, who was willing to help re-build a bucky ball, and discuss the PNW-china connection with some strangers.

All in all a successful evening.

cracking heads

Posted by resonanteye on 11/08/2009

ominous llamaWinter is on its way. The monsoon has arrived. Grey skies, cool air, and nanner slugs abound.

I will miss the dry crisp of fall. But I am ready for a few months of damp rain and wind.

This wild water is the reason I love Cascadia so much, after all. This depression-inducing, misty, fungal, rot-making damp. The seep and drip, the blow, the hail and the flooded streets. The people with umbrellas who look so out of place-because really to get by mentally in a constant deluge you have to learn to coexist with the weather, not shield from it.

Glad I have a rainshield on my tent, even though the wipers on my car are awful (volvos!) and that my new raincoat is truly proof against wet neck and chest. But the rain on my face, hands, and hair will always be welcome to me-when I first came to Seattle it was the rainy season, the depth of it. Within a few weeks I’d fallen in love with the clouds and I have never really fallen out. Oregon has the same charm, anyplace within this rainshadow affects me in a bittersweet nostalgic way. I adore it.

Every year I watch people from sunny places come and go.

People move here and see the glory of the northwest but I think many are not prepared, really, for the reality of how much water from the sky it actually takes to keep everything so green.

So many move here and leave a few years later.

I know a few who have stuck it out for decades. I am one of them.

I know a few, too, who have found ways around the madness of months spent indoors, of lack of vitamin D, of SADD and all the other complaints.

I know a lot of people who have mold allergies and simply have to move away to some sunnier climate.

I don’t blame them or think they’re weak- everyone has a climate they are most well-built for, this just happens to be mine.

TODAY!!!

Posted by resonanteye on 07/14/2009

ACTIONToday is the only day we have, we don’t have tomorrow, the next day. Only today.

Will we regret, later on, not having done everything we could, as hard, as strong, as much as we could? YES!!! We will regret it! LIVE NOW, now is the time. We have today! Today is amazing! Action is in the air, sparks are everywhere, and there’s no reason not to do EVERYTHING!

Life is for living! Go outside! Run around! Paint, draw, sing, dance, scream, party, rage, laugh, leap!!! DO SOMETHING because you won’t ever get today again! EVER! You have to use it up right now! You may as well laugh and jump and have fun, do cool things, throw your body around like it’s made of rags and stitches! LIVE IT UP, living is so good for you. Doing the things you love is what your life is for!

If you have to work, work as fun and as hard and as well as possible, don’t do things half-assed, you don’t get to live twice! DO IT ALL THE WAY THE FIRST TIME! If you’re in love LET GO AND GIVE IT ALL YOU’VE GOT! If you’re mad beat someone up! If you’re sad CRY LOUD!

Today means everything. It’ll never be today again! It’ll be gone! You’ll have wasted it! You won’t regret doing everything as hard and as much as possible, you won’t, I promise! Years from now you won’t sit around thinking “I wish I’d been more lazy, and less motivated!” I PROMISE!!!

You don’t need more SPARE time, you need more ACTION! We all need to use it up! All of it! Don’t waste a drop! I mean it, I’m serious as hell right now, throw yourself in, because you’re stuck here anyway!

It’s the best day! TODAY!

official rib season, a personal post

nerf death

cave troll takes the kool-aid dare

It’s finally that time of year when I clean and oil the grill, rub it down with a handful of rosemary I picked from the patch next to it, and start cooking with fire. The usual small crowd of weirdos shows up, mayhem ensues. Hats, masks, wigs, meat products. Nerf battles and water balloons. Dogs running through the hose, people laughing til they wet themselves. Beer. Kool-aid. Sunshine.

God damn I love summer and springs in Oregon. I get to swim, barbecue, have my people around, laughing. I’ve never had half as much fun before, anywhere else I ever lived. hattery

more pictures if you read more.

train rides, toast, cicada, seattle, valium, human cargo, love

Posted by resonanteye on 02/24/2009

6 valiums on the trainSo I’m going to Seattle for my birthday to hang out and spend some time with my gentleman friend, Mark, (some of you may recall his presence at the Vancouver convention) also, to work with the kids at Cicada.

(note:croatoan reference here please)
Now while I am extremely pleased to be able to spend my birthday with such a wonderful person who I have such connected long-standing feelings for, and glad to be working with such amazing admirable and advanced artists on this trip, I also dread something and that dread is welling up in my soul.

The train. (more after the jump)
