work in progress, torch tattoo in colored pencil.

Posted by resonanteye on 06/03/2012

A sketch I am working over today, all in colored pencil so far.
I’ll probably come back through with a layer of liquid acrylic, then some fixative, then more pencil.

I want that fire to be blinding red when all is finished. (background is arrows, and flags)
Since I plan to do some mint greens and sage-type colors as backdrop, I’ve used that to do all my sketching. I will go through at the end with pen and ink and do whatever black linework I think it needs, usually I either do a bold line all around (tattoo styley) or a sculpted line only in areas where I want to beef up contrast without going darker in color tonal values.
I’ll update when it’s finished.

grace jones and carl panzram.

A few colored pencil portraits I’ve been working on.

I’ve got  Einstein and Ed Kemper and his mother coming up next.

Now that the gathering show is hanging and all that stuff is done, time to focus on the colored pencil stuff, for my january show.

The originals of these are for sale- I’ll be making about five prints of each; limited run. I don’t think I’ll be doing any more open editions of prints after this. I much prefer the process to be small so I can control the quality better.

On a side note, Panzram makes me warm inside. I will probably do an ok,ok story about him soon.

And Grace Jones beats Chuck Norris any day of the week.
